(below the cut: screencaps, quotes, and meta!) Obviously, this post contains spoilers for the mission “synth retention” and general plot spoilers for fallout 4.Ī shout-out and thanks to for mentioning deacon’s reactions to this quest when she was first playing through it – this entire post was inspired by those conversations. The long version is that i feel this is another case of the like/dislike system not lining up with deacon’s character unless you dig deeper, as well as some interesting insight into deacon’s ability to go undercover. At that point it's not about making peace with the Institute, so much as it makes little to no sense to blow up the Institute if your faction raiding it was able to pacify/defeat it.The short version is that at face value, deacon has some very odd reactions to this mission. Brotherhood Chapter had cut content where you and Danse challenge Maxson for the title of Elder, and you take over as leader of the expeditionary force. Meanwhile in Fallout 4, every faction except for the Railroad ends up trying to put you into a leadership role that will dictate their course of action in the future. And if you go down the Yes Man route, you are allowed to pick and choose how you want to deal with the other minor factions like the Strip Families, Great Khans, and Mojave Brotherhood Chapter. But unlike Fallout 4, the only time you're in a leadership position after the second battle for Hoover Dam is if you side with Yes Man and replace House.
In New Vegas you end up becoming a revered and feared demi-god like entity responsible for changing events in the Mojave. I get where you're coming from when it comes to bias, but your role as the Courier/Sole Survivor in the two games is very different. This same subreddit also constantly complains about not being able to have a peaceful ending in fallout 4. And I got a \real* good feeling about him.*
